WELCOME TO THE TONGUE-TIE CENTER OF ST. PETE!
Dr. Scheps has a passion and extensive knowledge and training in diagnosing and treating infants, children and adolescents with lip- and tongue-ties. In addition to over 10 years of experience treating thousands of ties, he also has the experience of completing a release on his own daughter. This has given him real world experience and empathy for the intricacies of the healing process in an infant and allows him to better advise his families. He and his team make sure that every family is fully heard, educated, and guided every step of the way.
We are proud to utilize the LightScalpel CO2 laser, which is the gold standard for performing releases.
NOT SURE IF YOUR INFANT OR CHILD HAS A LIP- OR TONGUE-TIE?
Does your infant:
- Have difficulty latching, or staying latched?
- Click or “squeak” during breast or bottle feeding?
- Leak milk during feeding?
- Cause pain to the mother during breast feeding?
- Constantly feed, but never seem satisfied?
- Have a lot of gas, spit up, colic?
- Fall asleep during feeds only to wake up hungry again?
Does your older child:
- Struggle with speech (R, L, W, Th, S, Z sounds)?
- Tend to be a “picky eater”?
- Grind their teeth at night?
- Snore at night?
- Have a sensitive gag reflex?
- Have a bigger space between their two top front teeth than the rest?
If so, your child may have a restricted lip or tongue (or both) that can be corrected! We provide free consultations for children under 2, and very affordable consultations to children that are over 2 and not already a patient of ours.
WHY HAVE A LIP- OR TONGUE-TIE RELEASED?
Lip- and tongue-ties can have far reaching implications on the growth and development of the face, teeth and airways and contribute to poor breathing and sleeping (which can affect alertness and learning). Untreated ties can make it harder to brush and keep the teeth clean, and therefore increase a child’s risk of getting cavities.
If you think your child might have a restriction in function due to a lip- or tongue-tie, please give us a call to schedule your consultation today. The proper diagnosis and treatment could change your child’s life!
